ABSTRACT Disclosed is a system for transmitting digital information signals comprising a coder at the transmitting end and a decoder at the receiving end. Information signals to be transmitted are connected, at the transmitting end, to a generator polynomial in such a manner that check-points are associated with the information signals to be transmitted, the check-points being obtained from an arithmetical correlation of information signals with the generator polynomial, A cyclical block-code is used which contains an arithmetical correlation of a generator polynomial, the hamming-distance of which has a value such that a first number of errors/block, arising during transmission, is recognizable and correct- able, and with a further polynomial so that a second number of errors/block, arising during transmission, is recognizable, in addition to the recognizable and correctable errors.
