System for transporting persons and/or goods with vehicles (2) provided with a plurality of running wheels which are couplable onto a continually moving drive cable (3), whereby the vehicles are driven along a track (1), particularly along rails (11, 12), whereby decelerating and accelerating wheels (5) are disposed in stations in which the vehicles (2) can be decoupled from the drive cable (3), which wheels can be brought into contact with the vehicles (2), by way of which their travel speed is reduced or increased. Each vehicle is thereby provided with at least one contact surface (6) at an underside thereof, with which the decelerating and accelerating wheels (5) cooperate, which wheels are mounted on substantially horizontal axes.
