The performance and ease of management of wireless communications environments is improved by a mechanism that enables access points (Aps, 12) to perform automatic channel selection. A wireless network can therefore include multiple Aps (12), each of which will automatically choose a channel such that channel usage is optimized. Furthermore, APs (12) can perform automatic power adjustment so that multiple AP (12) can operate on the same channel while minimizing interference with each other. Wireless stations (16) are load balanced across Aps(12) so that user bandwidth is optimized. A movement detection scheme provides seamless roaming of stations between Aps (12).

L'invention concerne l'efficacité et la facilité de gestion d'environnements de communication sans fil, améliorées par un mécanisme permettant à des points d'accès (APs) d'exécuter une sélection de canal automatique. Un réseau sans fil peut ainsi comprendre de multiples APs, sélectionnant chacun automatiquement un canal de manière à optimiser l'utilisation du canal. Les APs peuvent, de plus, exécuter un réglage de puissance automatique de manière que de multiples APs puissent opérer sur le même canal, tout en minimisant les interférences entre ceux-ci. Des stations sans fil sont équilibrées dans les APs de manière à optimiser la largeur de bande de l'utilisateur. Un système de détection de mouvement permet l'itinérance continue des stations entre les APs.
