A system for cleaning a sander defining a sanding surface adapted to abrade a workpiece traveling on a table surface along a sanding path, where the sanding surface and sanding path are substantially enclosed within a housing. The system comprises a cleaning mat defining a cleaning surface and a support surface. The support surface engages the table surface. The cleaning mat is displaced along the sanding path such that the cleaning surface comes into contact with the sanding surface. The sanding surface contacts the cleaning surface to remove sawdust and other wood residue from the sanding surface.
