Systems and methods are disclosed that can improve the performance of decoders of forward error correcting codes by using the information contained in late packet arrivals to update (or recompute) the state of the decoder. The systems and methods of the disclosed embodiments are generally applicable to decoders that maintain state information in decoding successive bits or information frames. The systems and methods disclosed herein can improve the performance (i.e., the bit error rate) of the decoder since the recomputed state is exactly the state that the decoder would have had if the information contained in the late packet had originally arrived on time and been decoded in a usual manner. In effect, the updating of the decoder state following a late packet arrival terminates the propagation in time of the effect of the late packet erasure on the state of the decoder.
L'invention concerne des systèmes et des procédés qui permettent d'améliorer le rendement de décodeurs de codes de correction d'erreur sans voie de retour en utilisant les informations contenues dans les arrivées de paquet tardif afin de mettre à jour (ou recalculer) l'état du décodeur. Les systèmes et procédés selon l'invention sont généralement applicables aux décodeurs qui conservent les informations d'état en décodant des bits successifs ou des trames d'informations. Les systèmes et procédés selon l'invention permettent d'améliorer le rendement (c'est-à-dire, le taux d'erreur sur les bits) du décodeur étant donné que l'état recalculé est exactement l'état dans lequel serait le décodeur si les informations contenues dans le paquet tardif étaient originellement arrivée à temps et avait été décodées selon la manière habituelle. En effet, la mise à jour de l'état du décodeur suite à une arrivée de paquet tardif met un terme à la propagation dans le temps de l'effet de l'effacement du paquet tardif sur l'état du décodeur.
