A method for determining a carbon credit including the steps of: a) taking a sample of a plant type growing in a location or region; b) quantifying phytolithic organic carbon in the sample; c) quantifying total biomass of the plant type at the location or region; d) determining a total amount of phytolithic organic carbon for the total biomass of a plant type at the location or region; and e) determining a carbon credit applicable to the location or region based upon the total amount of phytolithic organic carbon determined in step (d) above.

La présente invention décrit une méthode permettant de déterminer le montant d~un crédit carbone. Cette méthode comprend les étapes suivantes sans y être limitée : a) prélèvement d~un échantillon d~un type de plante poussant dans une zone ou une région ; b) quantification du carbone organique phytolithique au sein de l~échantillon ; c) quantification de la biomasse totale représentée par le type de plante considéré dans la zone ou la région considérée ; d) détermination de la quantité totale de carbone organique phytolithique correspondant à la biomasse totale du type de plante considéré dans la zone ou la région considérée ; et e) détermination du crédit carbone applicable à la zone ou à la région considérée, ce calcul étant basé sur la quantité totale de carbone organique phytolithique déterminé dans l'étape (d) ci-avant.
