A share display (FIG 1, 100) in a multimedia collaboration system includes a desktop region (102) and a non-overlapping task bar region (101). A collaboration program is configured to allow the desktop region (102) to be shared with remote multimedia collaboration devices for the purposes of collaboration, but allows control functionality that the sharer does not which to share to reside in the task bar region (101). The task bar region (101) is then prevented form being shared with the remote multimedia collaboration device.
