The T-slot milling cutter disclosed employs an indexable insert (29) hav-ing two alternative edge surfaces which serve alternatively as the rake face (31) and rear abutting face of the insert (29) which transfers the cutting force to the rear wall of the in-sert pocket (23) of the cutter. The alternative edge surfaces comprise three facets (45, 51, 45), one (51) central to the surface and the other two (45, 45) receding from the central facet (51) at equal angles thereto. They serve primarily to wedge the insert (29) into mating angular surfaces in the rear wall of the insert pocket (23) to secure the insert (29) against dislodgement when held in the pocket (23) by the customary attaching screw (37) and, by their obliquity to the cutting direction, improve the cutting action when serving as the rake face (31).
La fraise pour rainure à T selon l'invention comporte une plaquette amovible (29) présentant deux surfaces latérales faisant alternativement office de face de coupe (31) et de face de butée arrière, la plaquette transférant la force de coupe sur la paroi arrière de son logement (23). Ces surfaces alternatives présentent trois facettes (45, 51, 45), l'une centrale (51), les deux autres (45, 45) disposées obliquement par rapport à la facette centrale (51), selon des angles égaux. Ces facettes servent essentiellement à caler et à bloquer la plaquette (29) dans des surfaces angulaires correspondantes de la paroi arrière du logement (23) une fois la plaquette fixée au moyen de la vis (37) et, de par leur obliquité, améliorent l'effet de coupe lorsqu'elles servent de face de coupe (31).
