ABSTRACT Disclosed is a table editor including a display device and line information storage means for storing information indicative of lines making up a table. Further information storage means store information indicative of pointing marks. The table and pointing marks are displayed on the display and location pointing means updates pointing mark information to direct a location of a pointing mark. Upon the generation of a line identifying command, line identification means identifies a line indicated by a pointing mark based on the pointing mark information and the identifying command. Insertion commands update the line information so that if a line identified by said line identification means is located between two consecutive rows, one or more new rows are inserted and, if a line identified by the line identification means is located between two consecutive columns, one or more new columns are inserted in response to the insertion command.
