A tablet coating machine for applying a coating to a bed of tablets, the machine comprising a circular drum with frusto-conical ends which is rotated about its axis by suitable means. The periphery of the drum is perforated to allow air to flow through the bed of tablets disposed in the drum under the action of a suction shoe. In order to be able to optimise the efficiency of the tablet coating process for different quantities of tablets, the volumetric capacity of the drum is adjustable to achieve a desired tablet depth for the quantity of tablets being processed. More particularly an axially adjustable wall portion is provided within the drum to adjust the length of the tablet containing portion of the drum. The wall portion is made up of segments which are dimensioned to fit through an opening into the drum by which tablets are introduced into the drum. In one embodiment a threaded rod is connected between the wall portion and an end wall of the drum to facilitate adjustment of the wall portion within the drum. The area over which air is sucked from the drum by the suction shoe applied to the periphery thereof, is adjustable to tailor it to the length of the tablet containing portion of the drum.

Le tambour est perforé sur sa périphérie pour permettre à l'air de circuler à travers le lit de comprimés placés dans le tambour sous l'effet d'un sabot d'aspiration. Dans le but de pouvoir optimiser l'efficacité du procédé d'enrobage des comprimés pour différentes quantités de comprimés, on peut ajuster la capacité volumétrique du tambour de manière à obtenir la profondeur de comprimés souhaitée pour la quantité de comprimés qu'on traite. Plus particulièrement, une cloison axialement réglable est prévue à l'intérieur du tambour pour ajuster la longueur de la partie du tambour contenant les comprimés. La cloison est faite de segments qui sont dimensionnés de manière à s'ajuster dans une ouverture par laquelle les comprimés sont introduits dans le tambour. Dans une application de l'invention, une tige filetée relie la cloison et une paroi d'extrémité du tambour pour faciliter le réglage de la cloison à l'intérieur du tambour. La zone dans laquelle l'air est aspiré hors du tambour, par le sabot d'aspiration appliqué à sa périphérie, peut s'ajuster pour s'adapter à la longueur de la partie du tambour contenant les comprimés.
