The present invention relates to dispensing contain- ers for dispensing tablets. The problem with such contain- ers is the tendency to inadvertently dispense tablets and the accessibility of the tablets by children. The dispensing container (20) comprises a housing (24), a reciprocating element (26) and a locking mechanism (22) movable be- tween locked and unlocked positions to lock or unlock the reciprocating element (26). The locking mechanism (22) re- mains in either the locked or unlocked position until man- ually moved to the other position. The locking mechanism incorporates visual, tactile and audible signals indicating when the locking mechanism (22) is in the unlocked posi- tion.
