A computer-based system permitting a visually impaired user to interact with tactile graphic-based interactive software applications is provided. The system includes a host computer having a data processor and a drive for running the interactive software applications and a pressure sensitive work pad. The work pad has X and Y pressure sensitive members disposed in a grid array for providing unique location output signals corresponding to each different location on the grid array. The work pad is operatively connected to the host computer and an overlay comprising a sheet is placed over an upper surface of the work pad. The overlay having a work space which bears tactile indicia which corresponds to a selected one of the interactive software applications and also includes a tactile graphical user interface (TGUI) formed thereon. The TGUI has a plurality of tactile control members which generate location output signals when pressed. These output signals are communicated to the computer which processes the signals as control signals directing the computer to perform an operation. Methods of calibrating the overlays and identifying the overlays are also provided.
L'invention concerne un système informatique permettant à une personne ayant une déficience visuelle d'interagir avec des applications logicielles interactives graphiques tactiles. Ce système comprend un ordinateur hôte présentant un processeur et un pilote servant à l'exécution des applications logicielles interactives, ainsi qu'une tablette de travail sensible à la pression. Cette tablette de travail présente des éléments sensibles à la pression disposés sous la forme d'une grille de coordonnées X et Y pour fournir des signaux de sortie d'emplacement uniques correspondant à chaque emplacement sur la grille. Cette tablette de travail est reliée de manière fonctionnelle à l'ordinateur hôte et un élément de recouvrement comprenant un film est placé sur la surface supérieure de la tablette de travail. L'élément de recouvrement présente une zone de travail qui comprend des marques tactiles correspondant à une application logicielle interactive sélectionnée et sur laquelle est formée une interface utilisateur graphique tactile. Cette interface utilisateur graphique tactile présente une pluralité d'éléments de commande tactiles qui génèrent des signaux de sortie d'emplacement lorsqu'ils sont enfoncés. Ces signaux de sortie sont communiqués à l'ordinateur qui les traite sous la forme de signaux de commande servant à ordonner à l'ordinateur d'effectuer une opération. L'invention concerne également des procédés pour calibrer et identifier les éléments de recouvrement.
