- 9 - Abstract A retainer is provided for the hinge assembly of a pivotally mounted truck tailgate of the type that is removable from the truck through an access slot formed through hinge cups carried in the tailgate for rotatably engaging hinge pins mounted in the truck body. The retainer consists of a cup-like insert rotratably carried in a hinge cup and providing a slot which closely engages a hinge pin to define the path of non-rotative tailgate travel for insertion and removal of the tailgate.
