Tall oil pitch may be reacted with a phenol-containing organic compound and formaldehyde or reactive equivalent thereof to prepare a resin. The reactants may further include polyhydric organic compound, a,b-unsaturated carboxyl compound or ester thereof, and hydroxyl-containing non-phenolic organic compound. The resin may be formulated with a colorant to provide an ink for lithographic, gravure or letterpress printing.

Selon l'invention il est possible de faire réagir de la poix de tall oil avec un composé organique contenant du phénol et un formaldéhyde ou un équivalent réactif de ce dernier pour préparer une résine. Les réactifs peuvent en outre comprendre un composé organique polyhydrique, un composé carboxylique .alpha.,.beta.-insaturé ou un ester d'un tel composé, et un composé organique non phénolique contenant de l'hydroxy. La résine peut être formulée avec un colorant pour produire une encre destinée à l'impression lithographique, typographique ou par héliogravure.
