ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A general purpose locking device for the prevention of theft of property comprised of a locking screw and sleeve and a locking nut and sleeve. The locking screw consists of a threaded body and rounded head having a plurality of machined cavities of dissimilar dimen- sions arranged in a circular pattern on the perimeter of the screw head. Dual machined grooves circumnavigate the head surface and form part of a detent system, the remainder of which consists of a plurality of ball bearings located within the screw sleeve. The locking nut is of stepped design and incorporates a plurality of machined cavities of dissimilar dimensions, but substantially equal to those of the locking screw, arranged in a circular pattern around the perimeter of the outer nut end surface. A nut sleeve incorporates two horizontally opposed inclined planes such us lo form an internal constriction against which the step on the nut rides when removably inserted into the nut sleeve. Thus the nut can be removably inserted into the sleeve from one direction only. A key incorporating a plurality of protrusions which correspond in both dimensions and positioning to the cavities of the screw head and nut is used to alternately fasten and unfasten the screw from the nut. The locking screw and nut may be used in combination or independently, as in securing automobile or bicycle wheels.
