A tampon pledget includes crosslinked cellulose fibers having microstructures treated to provide improved absorbency and higher wet strength. The fibers are treated with a crosslinking agent to provide at least one of a molecular weight between crosslinks of from about 10 to 200 and a degree of crystallinity of from about 25% to 75%. The crosslinking agent includes citric acid in 1% by weight. The crosslinking agent may further include sodium hypophosphite in 1% by weight. In another embodiment, the crosslinking agent may be a difunctional agent including a glyoxal or a glyoxal-derived resin. In still another embodiment, the crosslinking agent is a multifunctional agent including a cyclic urea, glyoxal, polyol condensate. The crosslinking agent is added in an amount from about 0.001% to 20% by weight based on a total weight of cellulose fibers to be treated and, preferably, in an amount of about 5% by weight.
La présente invention concerne un tampon comprenant des fibres de cellulose réticulées présentant des microstructures traitées en vue de l'obtention d'une meilleure absorption et d'une plus grande résistance à l'état humide. Les fibres sont traitées au moyen d'un agent de réticulation afin de garantir au moins l'une des caractéristiques suivantes : une masse moléculaire au sein du réseau d'environ 10 à environ 200 et un degré de cristallinité d'environ 25 à 75 %. L'agent de réticulation comprend de l'acide citrique à hauteur de 1 % en poids. L'agent de réticulation peut également comprendre de l'hypophosphite de sodium à hauteur de 1 % en poids. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, l'agent de réticulation peut être un agent bifonctionnel comprenant une résine de type glyoxal ou encore une résine dérivée du glyoxal. Dans un autre mode de réalisation encore, l'agent de réticulation est un agent multifonctionnel comprenant de l'urée cyclique, du glyoxal, un condensat de polyol. L'agent de réticulation est ajouté à hauteur d'environ 0,001 à 20 % en poids sur la base du poids total des fibres de cellulose à traiter et, de préférence, à hauteur d'environ 5 % en poids.
