ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A Tandem separating device is provided which has two sloping decks each which receives a sand suspension for separation and both of which are continuously smoothly reciprocated horizontally, transversely to the slope direction. A cyclic operation is provided whereby a sand suspension is fed in turn to each deck, it is separated by the reciprocation and is flushed off to bins thereby collecting separate time-intervals of operation. In this manner most metalliferous particles are collected in a different bin from most of the sand and one is able to effect the separation from for example sand tailings from mineral dressing.
