A tandem wheel assembly including a support frame (11); a pair of wheels; a motor (15) mounted onto the support frame (11) for providing power to the wheels so as to impart a rotation of the wheels; and a power transmission system (17) operatively connected between the motor and the wheels for transmitting power from the motor to the wheels. The power transmission system has a rotatable power transmission shaft (19) including first and second components (19a, 19b) each having a longitudinal axis (21, 23), the first and second components (19a, 19b) being connected to each other via coupling means (25) for enabling the first and second components (19a, 19b) to rotate together as part of the rotatable power transmission shaft, while allowing the longitudinal axis (23) of the second component (19b) to be displaced at an angle .THETA. with respect to the longitudinal axis (21) of the first component (19a), so as to sustain a transversal load component subjected to the rotatable power transmission shaft.

L'invention concerne un assemblage de roues en tandem comprenant un cadre de support (1), une paire de roues, un moteur (15) fixé sur le cadre de support (11) servant à fournir de la puissance aux roues, de manière à les faire tourner, et un système de transmission de puissance (17) relié fonctionnellement entre le moteur et les roues afin de transmettre de la puissance du moteur aux roues. Ce système de transmission de puissance possède un arbre de transmission de puissance (19) doté de premier et second composants (19a, 19b), qui présentent respectivement un axe longitudinal (21, 23). Lesdits premier et second composants (19a, 19b) sont reliés entre eux par le biais d'un dispositif de couplage (25) servant à permettre aux premier et second composants (19a, 19b) de tourner ensemble comme une partie de l'arbre de transmission de puissance, tandis que l'axe longitudinal (23) du second composant (19b) peut être déplacé à un angle T par rapport à l'axe longitudinal (21) du premier composant (19a), ce qui permet de maintenir un composant d'effort transversal soumis à l'arbre de transmission de puissance.
