A tangle-free tether post assembly for tether animals which includes a post (21) having a lower end (22) adapted to be buri- ed in the ground, and upper end (23) formed to project above the ground. A tether securement assembly (26) is mounted on the upper end (23) of the post (21) at a spaced distance above the ground. The tether securement assembly (26) is positioned vertically above a rotatable sleeve (28) which also is mounted on the post (21) so that the combination of securement assembly (26) and sleeve (28) rotation ensures tangle-free tethering of animals by means of a tether line (27). A ground anchor (37) is also provided on the tether post assembly which may be used to anchor the assembly and remove the same from the ground without digging up the post (21).
