The disclosure describes a tank for separating water and hydrocarbon fuels from contaminated water which comprises an elongated vessel having, at one end thereof, an inlet for delivering contaminated water into the vessel. A distribution baffle is mounted at this end of the vessel for directing the incoming flow of contaminated water into multiple streams thereby reducing the incoming turbulent flow into a laminar flow whereby water is directed towards the opposite end of the vessel in an unobstructed manner so that light hydrocarbon fuel droplets may be allowed to rise and be collected on the surface of the water. An outlet piping is providing at the opposite end of the vessel for discharging water free of hydrocarbon fuels.
