ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A humidifier tank assembly, forming part of a medical humidifier, is arranged to humidify a gas passing through it to a level substantially less than 100% saturation and at a temperature higher than that at which it is to be delivered to a patient. Subsequent cooling of the gas increases the humidification so that when the gas is delivered to the patient it is practically 100% saturated. The tank is so designed that the temperature and degree of the saturation of the gas delivered to the patient is maintained substantially constant over a wide range of gas flows. The tank is devoid of complex vapour-generating surfaces and is easy to clean.
