ABSTRACT A tank is provided with an upwardly pivoting cover that extends over the breech ring of the firearm of the tank and the recoil space for the breech ring. When the firearm is depressed from 0° elevation, the cover pivots upwardly to provide adequate recoil space. A cartridge case deflector is mounted in the cover and is pivotally connected to the cover and the recoil jacket of the firearm. The deflector forms a deflection channel for deflecting the ejected cartridges out of an opening in the rear of the cover, regardless of the elevation of the firearm. The deflector is preferably laterally collapsible to provide for loading of the firearm.
