TANNIN TREATMENT OF ALUMINUM ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a process for the treatment of an aluminum surface comprising contacting the surface with an aqueous solution containing at least 0.000025 weight percent of a vegetable tannin, which solution exhibits a pH of at least 3. Under preferred conditions, this treatment produces substantially no measurable coating, yet the corrosion resistance of the bare surface and the adhesion of an organic finish to the surface are enhanced.
