A guide apparatus for tap or die cutting of thread into an object such as a rod or a nut comprising a template rod, a guide nut, a cutting assembly and a positioning disc. These elements are geared and aligned with the object to be cut by a "U" shaped support frame. The apparatus may be conversely modified to cut external thread onto a rod or internal thread into a nut.
