- 1 - Abstract A cassette for accommodating a magnetic recording tape comprises a generally rectangular casing. An erasure preventing member is accommodated within a detection hole in the casing for selective movement between retracted and projected positions. This member has an outer surface that in the projected position closes the detection hole and lies flush with an outer surface of the rear wall of the casing, indicating that the tape is available for recording or erasure. When the erasure preventing member is moved to its retracted position with its outer surface located inwardly from the rear wall, the cassette is in the condition in which neither recording nor erasure can be accomplished.
