A tape head for a taping machine for sealing cardboard cartons includes a front presser roller for applying tape to a leading end and top or bottom end of a carton; a rear roller for pressing the tape against the trailing end of a carton as the carton passes beneath or above head; and an actuator lever assembly for moving the rear roller into position against the carton, and a link bar extending between arms carrying the front and rear presser rollers for ensuring that a carton close to a carton being taped does not jam or damage the tape head.
