The present invention aims to produce a label which has a size, margins and a character arrangement as a user desired, and aims to reduce a wasteful consumption of tape . In a tape printing device of the present invention, there is established an enlargement printing mode in which a large pseudo label, whose width is wider than the width of tape, can be obtained when the tape is divided into division portions in the longitudinal direction of the tape and when the division portions are arranged in the direction of the width of the tape. When printing in this mode, the tape printing device prints not only a character string but a marker which indicates the dividing positions in the longitudinal direction of the tape, with the intention of improving the quality of the pseudo label. Further, the tape printing device of the present invention has the function of automatically setting the length of the front and rear margins according to the width of the tape and the function of printing a square- array dot pattern on a wide region which is wider than the character string. Moreover, the tape printing device of the present invention has the function of feeding the tape, for example, between a print head and a cutter, when instructing to stop printing the character string, without printing characters. Furthermore, the tape printing device of the present invention has the function of printing a character string even when accelerating and decelerating a tape feeding motor. Thus, desirable margins or the like can be realized and the reduction in wasteful consumption of the tape can be achieved by making use of theses functions. Additionally, the tape printing device of the present invention has the function of inputting, taking in and printing (1/M)-scale reduced numeric characters, each of which has a size that is (1/M) the size of a full-size character. Cette imprimante à bande permet de former des étiquettes qui possèdent la grosseur voulue par l'utilisateur et sur lesquelles les espaces blancs et les caractères sont disposés selon les désirs de l'utilisateur, cette imprimante permettant ainsi de réduire la consommation inutile de bande. Cette imprimante comprend un mode d'impression d'expansion, dans lequel une pseudo-étiquette, plus grande que la largeur de la bande, peut être produite par division de la bande en parties dans le sens longitudinal, ces parties étant jointes dans le sens de la largeur de la bande. Au moment de l'impression en ce mode, la qualité de la pseudo-étiquette est améliorée par l'impression de repères, lesquels indiquent les positions de la bande où elle est divisée dans le sens longitudinal, en plus des chaînes de caractères. Cette imprimante possède une fonction qui détermine automatiquement les longueurs des espaces blancs à l'avant et à l'arrière d'une chaîne de caractères, ainsi qu'une fonction qui imprime une structure matricielle de points dans une zone plus large que les chaînes de caractères. Cette imprimante possède également une fonction qui fait avancer la bande par exemple à partir de la tête d'impression jusqu'à l'outil de coupe, sans impression, lorsqu'une instruction d'arrêt d'impression est donnée pendant l'opération d'impression, ainsi qu'une fonction qui imprime une chaîne de caractères, même lorsqu'un moteur d'avance de bande est accéléré ou déccéléré. Grâce à ces fonctions, les espaces blancs désirés et autres peuvent être obtenus et toute consommation inutile de bande peut être réduite. En outre, ce dispositif d'impression possède une fonction qui accepte et imprime les caractères numériques de grandeur 1/M, dont la grandeur est réduite à une valeur 1/M de la grandeur M, de façon à améliorer la diversité d'impression des caractères numériques.
