ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tape tension control circuit for a helical scan video tape recorder is disclosed having a pair of tension sensors. A sensor output from a take-up (supply) side sensor is fed back to a take-up (supply) reel motor when a pinch roller and a capstan are driving a tape. When the pinch roller and the capstan are deactuated, the sensor output from the take-up (supply) side sensor is then fed back to a supply (take-up) reel motor.
