ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tapered screw joint comprising a tapered externally spiro-helically grooved male member engageable in a complemen- tarily shaped female member, in which the grooves each have a surface inclined at an angle to the joint axis which is small enough to allow the members to be axially separated in response to an axial force without damage to the said grooves, torque being transmitted in operation between the members in one sense by frictional engagement between the said groove sur- faces.
