A Tapered Spline and Method of Manufacturing Same Abstract A first member with a tapered spline and a method of making same, which tapered spline provides an improved backlash-free mating with a second member having a conventional straight spline. The method of forming the spline consists of distorting a first member along its central axis, broaching the first member to form a straight cylindrical spline, and returning the first member to its undistorted condition whereby the straight spline becomes a tapered spline.
