Abstract A linear induction motor primary has teeth defining slots to accomodate the flux generating coils. The teeth taper from the root to the tip. This provides increased slot area to accomodate a larger cross-section of copper windings and thus reduce machine loss, while the tapered tooth provides an approximately uniform flux density at the design value through the tooth.
