A method for preventing retinal ganglion cell depth, associated with glaucoma, in an animal of the mammalian species, including humans, comprising the step of administering to ganglion cells and their axons (optic nerve) of said mammal a pharmaceutical composition which comprises as its active ingredient one or more compounds having activity for blocking a reverse mode of the sodium/calcium exchanger.

Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé servant à prévenir la mort cellulaire des ganglions de la rétine associée au glaucome, chez un mammifère, notamment chez l'homme, ce procédé consistant à administrer aux cellules des ganglions et à leurs axones (nerf optique) de ce mammifère une composition pharmaceutique qui comprend comme principe actif un ou plusieurs composés ayant pour effet de bloquer le mode inverse de l'échangeur sodium/calcium.
