ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Tarpaulins having great tear strength. They are produced by weaving base fabrics from a mixture of a prin- cipal thread and a second thread. The second thread is superior to the principal thread in either breaking elon- gation, breaking strength and breaking work or is different from the principal thread in adhesive strength to film. The tarpaulin may be made from a mixture of a principal thread, to be used for warp and woof, and a second binding yarn. The latter is superior to the principal thread in either breaking elongation, breaking strength and breaking work or is different from the principal thread in adhesive strength. films consisting of plastics, rubbers or mixtures thereof are formed on the base fabrics by application or adhesion.
