A packet data communication system includes a control station and a plurality of mobile terminals that communicate on demand with the control station over a wireless link. The control station has a data port for receiving data packets destined for the terminals, an arrangement for generating a plurality of data channels for carrying the data packets, and an arrangement for assigning the data packets destined for a particular terminal to one or more of the data channels. A control channel carries control information pertaining to the data channels. The channels are trasmitted to the mobile terminals as an r.f. signal. The terminals have a receiver for receiving the r.f. signal, an analog-to-digital converter for digitizing the received signal, and a buffer for storing the digitized received signal. The terminals continually monitor the control channel to extract control information. The stored signal is processed to extract packet data destined for the terminal from one or more of the data channels in response to control information received on the control channel.
L'invention concerne un système de transmission de données par paquets qui comprend une station de contrôle et une pluralité de terminaux mobiles qui communiquent sur demande avec la station de contrôle via une liaison sans fil. La station de contrôle à un port de données permettant de recevoir les paquets de données à destination des terminaux, un agencement permettant de générer une pluralité de canaux de données en vue de transporter les paquets de données et un agencement permettant d'affecter les paquets de données à destination d'un terminal particulier à un ou plusieurs canaux de données. Un canal de contrôle porte les informations de contrôle relatives aux canaux de données. Les canaux sont transmis vers les terminaux mobiles comme un signal HF. Les terminaux présentent un récepteur permettant de recevoir le signal HF, un convertisseur analogique-numérique permettant de numériser le signal reçu et un tampon permettant de stocker le signal numérisé reçu. Les terminaux surveillent en permanence le canal de contrôle pour en extraire les informations de contrôle. Le signal stocké est traité en vue d'extraire les données par paquets à destination du terminal à partir d'un ou plusieurs canaux de données en réaction aux informations de contrôle reçues sur le canal de contrôle.
