Automatic tracking by a camera (16) of an object (12) such as on-air talent appearing in a televi-sion show commences by first deter-mining whether the object lies within the camera field of view matches a ref-erence object. If so, tracking of the ob-ject then occurs to maintain the object in fixed relationship to a pre-set loca-tion in the camera's field of view, pro-vided the designated object has moved more than a threshold distance from the pre-set location.

L'invention porte sur un suivi automatique par une caméra (16) d'un sujet (12) tel qu'un artiste en direct apparaissant dans une émission de télévision, qui commence en déterminant tout d'abord si le sujet se trouve dans le champ de vision de la caméra et correspond à un sujet de référence.
