An implantable device (20) uses the carotid baroreflex in order to control systemic blood pressure. The implant includes sampling and pulse stimulation electrodes (44) preferably located on the carotid sinus nerve branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve, adjacent and distal to the carotid sinus baroreceptors. The stimulators have an external control unit, which communicates with the implant for determining appropriate operational parameters, and for retrieving telemetry information from the device's data bank. Typically two internal devices are implanted, one at each side of the patient's neck.
L'invention concerne un dispositif implantable (20) qui utilise le baroréflexe carotidien, de façon à réguler la pression sanguine de manière systémique. L'implant comprend des électrodes (44) d'échantillonnage et de stimulation d'impulsion, de préférence situées sur la branche du nerf sinusal carotidien du nerf glossopharyngien, adjacente et distale aux barorécepteurs de sinus de carotide. Les stimulateurs présentent une unité de commande extérieure qui communique avec l'implant pour déterminer des paramètres opérationnels appropriés, et pour rechercher des informations de télémétrie à partir de la banque de données du dispositif. De manière générale, deux dispositifs internes sont implantés des deux côtés de la région cervicale du patient.
