When a caller calls a called party through an information assistance system, the caller is afforded an option to leave a message for the called party in the event that the call cannot be successfully completed. When the called party receives the message from the information assistance system through a subsequent telephone connection, the called party is afforded an option to call the caller back, without first terminating the connection. In a accordance with the invention, the caller may leave the same message for not only the destination number being called, but also other telephone numbers desired by the caller. The inventive message delivery service may also be utilized to perform a wake-up call function, an event reminder function, etc. in accordance with various aspects of the invention.
