Computer users may utilize different web browsers to access a server system on the World Wide Web (WWW) to create or join a collaborative browsing session. The users or collaborators in a session are connected by one or more controllers in the server system. When a collaborator creates or joins a session, mobile code is transmitted from the system to the collaborator's computer to create a surrogate thereon, which monitors the collaborator's interaction with a web browser on the computer. The controllers communicate with all the surrogates of the collaborators to coordinate the collaborative browsing effort. When one of the surrogates detects a change by a collaborator of a uniform resource locator (URL), the new URL is communicated through the controllers to the surrogates of all other collaborators in the session. As such, the collaborators are able to move from one URL to another to browse information in a synchronous manner. In addition, the collaborators can interactively communicate with one another in real time through the respective surrogates during the session.
Les utilisateurs d'ordinateurs peuvent se servir de différents explorateurs Web pour avoir accès à un système serveur sur le World Wide Web (WWW) en vue de créer une séance d'exploration coopérative ou de se joindre à une telle séance. Dans ce type de séance, les utilisateurs ou les collaborateurs sont connectés par un ou plusieurs contrôleurs dans le système serveur. Quand un collaborateur crée une séance ou se joint à une séance, un code mobile est transmis du système à l'ordinateur du collaborateur en question pour y créer un substitut qui surveillera l'interaction du collaborateur avec un explorateur Web installé sur l'ordinateur. Le contrôleur communique avec tous les substituts des collaborateurs pour coordonner l'effort d'exploration en collaboration. Quand l'un des substituts détecte un changement chez un collaborateur d'un Localisateur de ressources uniformes (URL), le nouvel URL est transmis par les contrôleurs aux substituts de tous les autres collaborateurs de la séance. Ceux-ci peuvent passer d'un URL à un autre pour explorer l'information de façon synchrone. De plus, les collaborateurs peuvent communiquer de façon interactive en temps réel les uns avec les autres par l'intermédiaire de leurs substituts respectifs au cours de la séance.
