A technique is suggested to measure a threshold of multi-photon initiated photopolymerisation involving Z-scan of a thin film of sensitive material along the focusing axis of the laser beam. The condition of reaching the threshold when gradually increasing the light intensity by moving the film towards the focal spot of the beam is defined as that with minimal intensity at which polymerization occurs. Measured in this technique are: 1) laser pulse energy E p laser pulse duration .DELTA.t p, intensity distribution profile of initiating laser beam I(x), x- coordinate (distance from the center) and area D2 of the cross-section of the polymerized material, caused by a single pulse. Multiphoton threshold here is obtained as I th=I(D2/2) as it is the intensity on the border between polymerized and non-polymerized areas of the exposed spot of the material.
