A method for determining a velocity of an object (0), such as a ball, over a span length (SL) extending from a span start (SS) to a span end (SE). An audio signal (AS) is received by a mobile terminal's (MT) microphone (MP). An approximate travel time (TT) for a traversal of the span length (SL) by the object (O) is determined, which act time comprises processing the audio signal (AS) and detecting a first shape (210) and a second shape (212) which respectively correspond to an approximate start time (T 1) and approximate end time (T2) of the traversal, and determining the approximate travel time (TT) based on the detected first shape (210) and second shape (212). The object's velocity is determined based on the span length (SL) and approximate travel time (TT). The velocity may be determined by the mobile terminal or by an external server.

Linvention concerne un procédé permettant de déterminer la vitesse dun objet (O), comme une balle, sur la longueur dun intervalle (SL) sétendant entre le début dun intervalle (SS) et la fin dun intervalle (SE). Un signal audio (AS) est reçu par le microphone (MP) dun terminal mobile (MT). Un temps de trajet approché (TT) pour une traversée de la longueur de lintervalle (SL) par lobjet (O) est déterminé, ce temps daction comprenant le traitement du signal audio (AS) et la détection dune première forme (210) et dune seconde forme (212) correspondant respectivement à un temps initial approché (T 1) et à un temps final approché (T2) de la traversée, et le temps de trajet approché (TT) est déterminé sur la base de la première forme détectée (210) et de la seconde forme détectée (212). La vitesse de lobjet est déterminée sur la base de la longueur de lintervalle (SL) et sur le temps de trajet approché (TT). La vitesse peut être déterminée par le terminal mobile ou un serveur externe.
