A system for monitoring and managing the operations of multi-technology telecommunications network (10) is disclosed. The system includes programmable probes (22a, 22b, 22c) operatively connected to a network for monitoring data transfer activity of the network and collecting selected data relating to one or more relevant functions. A workstation interpreter (24a, 24b, 24c) is programmed for (1) receiving input from a system manager identifying the type or types of parameter that are to be monitored, (2) providing appropriate commands to program the programmable probe to effect collection of data relative to the selected parameter, and (3) receiving and storing the parameter data from the probe. The probe hardware is selected for compatibility with the network technology with which it is associated and it is programmed with the appropriate management protocols to facilitate communication therebetween.
L'invention concerne un système de surveillance et de gestion des opérations d'un réseau (10) de télécommunications multi-technologie. Ledit système comprend des sondes (22a, 22b, 22c) programmables, qui sont reliées de manière opérationnelle à un réseau afin de surveiller les transferts de données du réseau et recueillir des données sélectionnées, relatives à une ou plusieurs fonctions importantes. Une traductrice (24a, 24b, 24c) de station de travail est programmée pour (1) recevoir des données provenant d'un gestionnaire de système, qui identifient le ou les types de paramètres qui doivent être surveillés; (2) envoyer des instructions appropriées pour programmer la sonde programmable afin de recueillir les données relatives au paramètre sélectionné; et (3) recevoir et stocker les données relatives au paramètre qui proviennent de la sonde. La sonde est choisie pour sa compatibilité avec la technologie de réseau à laquelle elle est associée et elle est programmée avec les protocoles de gestion adéquats afin de faciliter la communication entre ces derniers.
