A mask for a mouthpiece of a transmitting means of a telephone handset, which mask includes a nonwoven web composed of synthetic polymer fibers and adapted tofunction as a barrier to pathogens while substantially allowing the passage of sound waves therethrough. The nonwoven web may be pattern bonded by the application of heat and pressure and is adapted to cover the mouthpiece. By way of example, the synthetic polymer fibers may be polyolefin fibers. As another example, the nonwoven web may be a meltblown web. As a further example, the nonwoven web may be electret treated. In some embodiments, the nonwoven web may be a planar sheet of a size and shape sufficient to cover the mouthpiece, with a least a portion of a side thereof having a coating of a pressure-sensitive adhesive. In other embodiments, the mask may be a sheet having an elasticized border and a size and shape adapted to cover a sufficient portion of the transmitting means to cover the mouthpiece. In still other embodiments, the mask may be molded to cover a sufficient portion of the transmitting means to cover the mouthpiece. The mask also may include one or more additional layers of a nonwoven web. The mask or one or more layers thereof may be treated with one ormore materials which kill or inhibit the growth of pathogens.

Le masque, ou une ou plusieurs de ses couches, peuvent être traités avec un ou plusieurs matériaux de nature à détruire les agents pathogènes ou à en empêcher la croissance.
