The item of mailing (10) is marked up with a telephone number (12) belonging to the mailer, and the mailer calls a pre-determined telephone number (14) to the distributor of items of mailing (10), thus through the pre-determined telephone number (14) confirming postage rate and payment of an item of mailing (10) at the distributor of mail.
