ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a novel telephone system for connecting a novel telephone instrument of a subscriber to a public telephone exchange from any one of a plurality of connection points through an ordinary telephone exchange line, the said novel telephone instrument being provided with a corresponding pulse generator to effect such connec- tion. The ordinary telephone exchange line may be the ordinary telephone exchange line associated with the resi- dential or commercial telephone of the subscriber, if the subscriber is a subscriber to a public telephone system, or it may be the ordinary telephone exchange line of the novel system if the subscriber has no residential or commercial telephone in the locality from which he wishes to use the system. The effect of the system is to provide each subscri- ber with a plurality of public extension positions, or connection points, which are located at positions or places remote from the place of the subscriber's residential or commercial telephone, or dedicated ordinary telephone exchange line, so that each connection point which is connec- ted to the novel system is, in reality, an extension of the subscriber's ordinary telephone exchange line. Each connec- tion point is usable by all subscribers to the novel system. Included as part of the novel system is a switching system which will connect the connection point, or remote extension, to the ordinary telephone exchange line upon presentation by the subscriber of a valid and verifiable secret sign which can consist of a combination of numbers, a combination of letters of the alphabet, or both, or any other form of identifying means such as credit cards, fingerprints, etc. -1-
