ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is provided a telephone system including a recording/reproducing section for recording an answering message to be transmitted to a calling subscriber and for reproducing the answering message, wherein a predetermined command from the calling subscriber is received through a telephone line during sending of the reproduced answering message to the telephone line, a predetermined operation is executed in correspondence with the command. In this telephone system, there are provided sections (25, 107) for generating a soundless period discrimination signal indicating a soundless period of the answering message at the time of recording the answering message, and command reception sections (11, 20, 21) for receiving the command signal in response to the soundless period discrimination signal at the time of sending the reproduced answering message to the telephone line.
