A programmable multimedia controller which may be programmed to provide advanced, diverse telephony services including video phone calls, audio and video-conferencing, voicemail, text messaging and answering machine functions among others. In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, a touchscreen which is interfaced with the multimedia controller may be used as a virtual telephone, intercom or other communication or control device. By displaying a simulated telephone keypad, intercom controls or other appropriate controls on the touchscreen, a user may access both basic and advanced features and functions in a way that is intuitive and familiar. In an alternative embodiment, a simple remote control may be used with a television to enable user access to the same advanced telephony services as with the touchscreen. The programmable multimedia controller may be directly connected with conventional handsets to provided plain old telephone service (POTS) as well private branch exchange (PBX) service.
La présente invention concerne un contrôleur multimédia programmable qui peut être programmé afin d'offrir divers services de téléphonie évolués, notamment des appels visiophoniques, des audioconférences et des vidéoconférences, du courriel vocal, une messagerie textuelle et des fonctions de répondeur, entre autres. Selon un aspect de cette invention, un écran tactile dont le contrôleur multimédia assure l'interface peut être utilisé comme téléphone virtuel, interphone ou tout autre dispositif de communication ou de commande. Grâce à un clavier de téléphone simulé, des touches d'interphone ou d'autres touches appropriées affichés sur l'écran tactile, un utilisateur peut accéder à la fois à des options et à des fonctions de base et évoluées de manière intuitive et familière. Dans une variante de mode de réalisation, une simple télécommande peut être utilisée avec une télévision afin de permettre à un utilisateur d'accéder aux mêmes services de téléphonie avancés qu'avec l'écran tactile. Le contrôleur multimédia programmable selon cette invention peut être connecté directement à des combinés classiques afin d'offrir un service de téléphonie traditionnel (POTS) et un service de téléphonie privé (PBX).
