A telescoping spar structure (10) designed to be scalable for use with very large floating platforms to relatively small floating platforms includes a platform/hull (26) for supporting a payload (24); a telescoping spar (12) attached to the platform/hull that includes several interlocking tubes (14) extending from a shallow end to a deep end of the spar, the tubes configured to telescope in and out of adjacent tubes such that the tubes are nestable together in a stowed configuration; a buoyancy chamber (18) attached to the spar between shallow and deep ends of the spar; and, a damping chamber (20) attached to the spar between the buoyancy chamber and the deep end of the spar, the damping chamber including: a first compartment for entraining a volume of water, a second compartment for enclosing deployment ballast (22), and a release mechanism (36) for jettisoning the deployment ballast from the second compartment after the spar structure is deployed, enabling the platform to rise to an operational height relative to the waterline (34).

Cette invention concerne une structure à espars télescopiques pouvant s'utiliser avec de très grandes plateformes flottantes comme avec des plateformes flottantes relativement petites, qui comprend : une plateforme/coque destinée à supporter une charge utile, un espar télescopique fixé à la plateforme/coque et comprenant plusieurs tubes à interverrouillage s'étendant entre la partie peu profonde et la partie profonde de l'espar, ces tubes étant conçus pour coulisser et s'emboîter les uns dans les autres ; une chambre de flottaison reliée à l'espar entre son extrémité peu profonde et son extrémité profonde; et une chambre d'amortissement reliée à l'espar entre la chambre de flottaison et son extrémité profonde. Cette chambre d'amortissement comprend un premier compartiment entraînant un volume d'eau, un second compartiment renfermant un lest de déploiement, et une mécanisme de libération qui largue le lest de déploiement hors du second compartiment une fois la structure à espar déployée, ce qui permet à la plateforme de s'élever jusqu'à sa hauteur de travail par rapport à la ligne de flottaison.
