A B S T R A C T Television signal component transmission arrangements: The arrangement contains coders (103,104) which convert the Y, U and V components of a television signal into code words of variable length. These are interlaced in a multiplexer (105) in pulse frames in which permanent positions are allocated. At the receiving end the resultant t.d.m. signal is reseparated in a demultiplexer (112). Decoders (113,119) re- convert the code words of variable length into the Y, U and V components. By virtue of the allocation of permanent positions in the pulse frames it is possible to reliably separate the luminance and chrominance components at the receiving end, even when the word synchronisation of the individual components is lost.
