ABSTRACT A DNA probe, designated 29C, comprises a telomeric deoxynucleotide sequence from near the short arm ends of the X and Y chromosomes wherein there exists a region of hypervariability amongst unrelated individual members of a population. The probe has application in paternity determination and in the identification of individuals and provides a useful addition to the range of probes of this type which are used in forensic science and in pathology.
