ABSTRACT A method and a coating for minimizing the temperature increase of a vehicle 10 under illumination by solar radiation 20. The method of the present invention includes the step of determining a first spectrum of wavelengths over which the vehicle 10 emits substantial electromagnetic energy. The method further includes the step of applying a selectively reflective paint coating to the vehicle 10. The applied paint coating substantially absorbs eleatromagnetic energy over the first wavelength spectrum and substantially reflects electromagnetic radiation over a second wavelength spectrum not overlapping the first spectrum.
